As I sit with my thoughts from this past weekend, in my slightly hungover state, I realized just how deeply I am loved.
I’m not only recovering from a beyond-normal level of alcohol consumption. I’m also hungover from the love, the laughter, the moments created, the memories made, and the beauty of being surrounded by both established history and history still being written.
I’m overwhelmed by the amount of love I received this weekend and amazed at what it feels like to truly be poured into. I’m intoxicated by the joy my friends intentionally created for me, simply because they wanted me to feel celebrated.
As someone who struggles at times with feeling loved, feeling alone, or wondering if I’m appreciated, this weekend gently reminded me that I have a village. I am loved unconditionally. I am appreciated more than I sometimes allow myself to believe.
Sometimes healing isn’t found in solitude. Sometimes it’s found around a dinner table, on a dance floor, in the laughter that leaves your stomach hurting, in hugs that linger a little longer, and in the people who choose to show up without being asked.
And maybe that’s the best part of this drunken moment.
Not the drinks.
Not the headache.
Not even the memories.
The best part is waking up knowing that love left me just as intoxicated as anything I poured into my glass.
If this weekend taught me anything, it’s this: sometimes we don’t need more proof that we’re worthy of love. We simply need to stop overlooking the people who’ve been proving it all along.
I am a 2010 Mass Communication and Journalism graduate (BA) of Southeastern Louisiana University. I am also a 2016 English and Creative Writing Graduate (MA) of Southern New Hampshire University. I value words like no other. Words seem to pour out the depths of my soul of which I as a human have not yet dared to venture to. I appreciate pen, because it reaches beyond the boundaries that have been set by my more humanly self. I'm in love with paper or a blank screen, because it is the most beautiful canvas ever created by man.
