I Konfess, There’s More to Life Than What I’ve Settled to Experience

Hear me out, Loves.

I’ve been navigating life cautiously for quite some time now. Especially since the passing of my mother.

I’ve been doing what I’m supposed to do. Handling responsibilities, trying to get my life back on track, showing up for the people who depend on me, and making sure everything that needs my attention receives it.

But somewhere in the midst of doing all the right things, I stopped doing something equally important.

Living.

Not existing. Not functioning. Not simply making it from one day to the next.

Actually LIVING.

And if I’m being completely honest, I haven’t been doing much of that for myself.

My routine had quietly become my entire life.

Church. Work. Parenting. Choir rehearsal. Being a granddaughter. Fulfilling obligations. Repeat.

Day after day, I moved through the familiar motions of a life that was productive, structured, and seemingly fulfilling.

But where was the room for ME?

Where were the moments that didn’t require me to be responsible for someone or something?

Where were the experiences that existed simply because I wanted to have them?

It’s interesting how easily we can become accustomed to a routine until we no longer recognize how much of ourselves we’ve placed on the back burner.

We become so focused on maintaining our lives that we sometimes forget to experience them.

And I’ve been thinking about that quite a bit lately.

What is life without the experiences that shape us into the very people we’re becoming?

As a writer, I find that question especially significant.

Because what gives our words richness? What brings depth, texture, and tonality to the stories we tell?

Certainly, imagination has its place. Observation does, too.

But there’s something undeniably powerful about experience.

The unfamiliar surroundings. The unexpected conversations. The moments of stillness. The discoveries that challenge what we thought we knew.

The opportunity to feel something different from what we’ve grown accustomed to feeling.

All of it becomes part of us.

And eventually, some of it finds its way into our words.

Recently, I was given an opportunity to temporarily step outside the familiarity of my everyday life.

A different environment. A different rhythm. A chance to experience something beyond the routine I’d grown so comfortable maintaining.

And I took it.

I allowed myself to revel in the pure bliss of relaxation, newfound energy, fresh experiences, hope, and recollection.

I gave myself permission to be present without constantly thinking about everything awaiting my return.

And somewhere in those moments, I began to recognize just how much I’d needed them.

Not because my everyday life is without meaning.

Not because I don’t appreciate the people, responsibilities, and commitments that fill it.

But because a meaningful life should also have room for the person living it.

And that person deserves experiences, too.

Experiences that inspire.

Experiences that challenge.

Experiences that restore.

Experiences that remind us there’s still so much of the world, and ourselves, left to discover.

I returned to my thoughts with a different kind of clarity.

Lighter. Renewed. Inspired.

And perhaps most importantly, reminded that I don’t have to abandon the life I’ve built to experience more of what life has to offer.

I simply have to make room for it.

The experience has done wonders for my spirit, my perspective, and yes, even my pen.

Because sometimes the words we struggle to find aren’t necessarily missing.

Sometimes we simply need to live a little more before they reveal themselves.

So here’s my Konfession.

I’ve spent so much time tending to the life I’m responsible for that I nearly forgot to nurture the life I’m capable of experiencing.

And I don’t want to keep making that mistake.

There is still so much to see. So much to learn. So much to feel. So much to become.

And I intend to make room for more of it.

So, take it from me, Loves.

Don’t allow familiarity to convince you that you’ve experienced all life has to offer.

Step outside the routine when you can.

Give yourself permission to discover something new.

Make memories that belong to YOU.

And remember, there’s a difference between being present in your life and truly experiencing it.

Don’t settle for merely existing when there’s still so much living left to do.

I Konfess, I’m finally making room for MORE.

Breathe Soft. Speak Loud. Exhale, Love.
